Mission Statement

cayton ranger stationThe Foundation began as a vision of James Cayton’s descendents and a goal of the Forest Service to restore and preserve the Cayton Ranger Station.

The formal objectives and purposes of the Cayton Ranger Station Foundation are:

  • To stabilize, restore, and preserve the historic USDA Forest Service Cayton Ranger Station, circa 1910, with its structures and immediate surroundings;

  • To create opportunities for people to become educated about the life of an early federal government forest ranger and his wife as they lived and worked among pioneers and settlers in the Battlement National Forest;

  • And to promote the appropriate use of the Cayton Ranger Station by individuals and nonprofit groups for educational, cultural and recreational purposes.
